The Indian Institutes of Technology are fully autonomous public institutes of higher technical education, Located in India. Government of India declared them as “Institute Of National Importance” under IIT act. The IIT have common admission process for undergraduate’s called IIT-JEE which was replaced by Joint entrance Examination in 2013.
1) IIT Kharagpur-
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur commonly known as IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur is located in Kharagpur , West Bengal, India. IIT Kharagpur is public engineering institution established in 1951 by the Govement of India .It was one of the first of the IITs to be established and recognized as an Institute of national importance by the Govement of India. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur popularly known as IIT Kanpur. IIT Kanpur is an autonomous public institute of higher education located in Kanpur, Utter Pradesh, India. The Indian Government declared IIT Kanpur as Institute of National Importance under IIT Act. The IIT Kanpur established in 1959. The first Director of the Institute was P. K. Kelkar . The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay commonly known as IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay was ranked among the India’s top universities. The IIT Bombay is the second oldest institute of the Indian Institute Technology. IIT Bombay is located in Powai, Mumbai, India. It was founded in 1958 and declared as institute of national importance in 1961 by the Government of India.
4) IIT Madras-
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras commonly known as IIT Madras or IIT-M. IIT Madras is an public research and engineering institution located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu , India. IIT Madras established in 1959 with the technical and finance assistance from the former government of West Germany. It was the third IIT established by the Govement of India through IIT act.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati commonly known as IIT Guwahati. IIT Guwahati is a public institution established in 1994 by the Govement of India. IIT Guwahati is the six IIT established in India. IIT Guwahati located in Guwahati in the state of Assam, India. Govement of India recognized IIT Guwahati as Institute of National Importance under IIT act.
7) IIT Roorkee-
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee commonly known as IIT Roorkee. IIT Roorkee is public university located in Roorkee , Uttarakhand, India. Established in 1847 in British India by the lieutenant governor, Sir James Thomason. IIT Roorkee given university status in 1949 and converted in 2001 by the government of India udder IIT act. It was among the seventh IIT to be declared by t he government of India.
